Bridge Mural Project – ‘Unifying the Divide’ Dayton, Ohio

Aerial View
Back in 2012 UpDayton, a civic improvement organization, put out a call for mural designs for a highway footbridge that had experienced high crime, with the hope that by improving the environment, it would be possible to improve people’s attitudes and behavior. My teammates and I developed a stained-glass style floral design, incorporating the history and architecture of the neighborhoods on both sides of the footbridge, and when our design was selected we used a paint-by-numbers approach to let the mural be painted in large part by the community members themselves.
